EV road trip postcard: On the ferry back to Michigan

Welcome aboard the SS Badger post card

MANITOWOC, Wis. — Greetings from somewhere on Lake Michigan, as our EV road trip team floats our way back to the Great Lakes State.

We are among the 390 passengers Friday afternoon on the SS Badger, the ferry that runs from this city on the Wisconsin shore to Ludington.

Our Chevy Bolt is stored below deck; we are sitting on the edge of the bingo game taking place on the main deck and the waves of Lake Michigan surround us. (We also noticed that there are a couple of bars aboard this ferry and with four hours to kill … well, there might be an adult beverage in our futures.)

We’re not getting nostalgic yet, but most of our EV road trip is in our rearview mirror, so to speak.

But that’s not to say it’s over. After we dock, we’ll get one more fast charge near Grand Rapids and then head home.

We hope you’ll stick with us, though, since our reporting hasn’t ended.

One example: The SS Badger is coal-fired, but there may be a change afoot. One reason we are here is so that Kelly can report on that.
